State Rep. Justin Pizzulli | The Ohio House of Representatives
The Ohio House of Representatives has passed Keith’s Law, aimed at improving the response capabilities of first responders when assisting individuals with special needs during emergencies. State Representative Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County) announced the passage on Wednesday.
House Bill 144 introduces a voluntary statewide database that allows individuals with special needs to share crucial information with first responders before a crisis occurs. This data will be integrated into each county's 9-1-1 system, ensuring that appropriate information is available to first responders when dispatched, enhancing their preparedness to deliver potentially life-saving assistance.
Pizzulli stated, “Individuals with disabilities may require unique responses during emergency situations and we have a responsibility to best equip our first responders to do so effectively.”
The administration of this database will be managed by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
Keith’s Law now awaits review and consideration by the Ohio Senate.
