State Rep. Jason Stephens | The Ohio House of Representatives
Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) has voiced his concerns over the Environmental Protection Agency's plan to eliminate coal as a viable energy source. In a statement, Stephens criticized the Biden Administration for what he perceives as a lack of understanding or willful ignorance of reality in pursuit of their agenda.
Stephens highlighted the challenges Ohio is currently facing, stating, "Ohio is facing an electric grid crisis. With businesses investing in our state and a growing energy demand, we are working to build and maintain an all-of-the-above energy strategy to meet that demand." He emphasized the importance of including coal in the state's energy plan, asserting, "Coal is — and must — be a part of a plan to power Ohio."
The House Speaker underscored the significance of coal beyond its status as a commodity, noting, "It is a cornerstone of our economy, providing critical energy and thousands of jobs." Stephens affirmed Ohio's commitment to recognizing coal's essential role in sustaining the state's energy needs, stating, "Ohio will continue to recognize coal's crucial role in keeping our lights on and our communities powered."
