State Senator Shane Wilkin | The Ohio Senate
State Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) has introduced Senate Resolution 273, expressing Ohio's support for Texas as the state takes measures to combat illegal immigration. Wilkin emphasizes the importance of standing with Texas as it protects its border from what he deems an imminent threat to national security.
"The Supreme Court siding with the Biden administration on this ruling is unacceptable. Texas, a sovereign state, has the right and duty to protect its border with Mexico as well as protect its citizens," Wilkin stated, referring to the decision allowing U.S. Border Patrol to cut or remove wire fencing installed by Texas officials near Eagle Pass.
The issue of illegal immigration has reached crisis levels, with the month of December 2023 seeing over 225,000 migrants apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents, the highest number in the agency's history. This crisis is not confined to Texas alone but has spilled over into cities across the country, including Southern Ohio.
Senator Wilkin acknowledges the strain that illegal immigration places on resources, infrastructure, and institutions. He further highlights the risks posed to safety through the smuggling of illegal drugs and human trafficking into neighborhoods. Wilkin asserts, "Enough is enough."
Senate Resolution 273 serves to demonstrate Ohio's solidarity with Texas and its efforts to secure the border with Mexico. If passed, the resolution will be sent to the Governor of Texas, the President of the United States, and Ohio's Congressional delegation.
Ohio's support for Texas in its battle against illegal immigration is a testament to the shared concerns about national security and the impact of unauthorized immigration on communities.
