The Portsmouth Fire Department regrets to announce the Line of Duty death of Firefighter/EMT Edward J. Long.

Firefighter Long suffered a medical emergency while returning from a call for service on Tuesday March 22, 2022. Despite the best efforts of his crew and the staff at SOMC Emergency Department, Ed passed away at 11:30 a.m.

Ed faithfully served the citizens of Portsmouth for 27 years, beginning his career on March 17, 1995. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. Ed is survived by his wife Lisa, sons Cole, Colin and daughter Callie.

The Department requests respect for the family's privacy during this most difficult time.

A press conference will be held at 1600 hours on March 23, 2022 at  the Central Fire Station at 1529 Gallia Street Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
