State Senator Steve Wilson | The Ohio Senate
The Ohio Senate has passed Senate Bill 33, which permits employers to post specific labor law notices online. This bill is sponsored by State Senators Steve Wilson and George Lang, both Republicans representing Maineville and West Chester, respectively. Under existing regulations, these notices are required to be displayed prominently at the employer's physical workplace.
Senator Wilson expressed that the aim of this initiative is to enhance Ohio's business environment. "Senator Lang and I have made it a priority in office to make Ohio the best state in the nation in which to do business," said Wilson. He emphasized the importance of allowing employers flexibility by stating, "In a world where many employees have instant access to the internet in their pocket, we believe Ohio employers should be afforded the flexibility to focus on their employees, products, and services; rather than be restricted by red-tape."
The bill specifies that employers can post information related to several labor laws online for easy access by employees. These include Ohio’s Minor Labor Law (excluding lists of minors employed), Minimum Fair Wage Standards Law, Civil Rights Law, Prevailing Wage Law, Workers’ Compensation Law, and Public Employment Risk Reduction Program Law.
Lang highlighted the practicality of this legislation: "This is a common sense measure that simply allows Ohio employers the flexibility of posting these notices on the internet, instead of at the physical workplace." He noted its bipartisan support and its alignment with modern technological conveniences.
