The Ohio House of Representatives has approved House Bill 13, which seeks to establish November 5th as "Roy Rogers Day" in the state. This bill was announced by State Representative Justin Pizzulli from Scioto County.
Roy Rogers, born on November 5, 1911, in Portsmouth, Ohio, is remembered for his significant contributions as a singer, actor, television host, and rodeo performer. Known as the "King of Cowboys," Rogers' legacy continues to inspire many.
"This legislation seeks to both honor a legend deeply rooted in our state’s history and instill hope in younger Ohioans from rural communities that they too can pursue and achieve their dreams," stated Pizzulli. "By designating November 5th as ‘Roy Rogers Day,’ we ensure that his legacy, and the lessons it offers, live on."
Portsmouth hosted the Roy Rogers Museum and an annual festival celebrating him for over four decades.
With its passage in the House, House Bill 13 will now move forward to the Ohio Senate for further deliberation.
