State Rep. Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County) has revealed a significant development for Scioto County, as $34,216,387 is set to be allocated to a waterfront redevelopment initiative in the region. The funding is part of the recently launched Ohio’s Wonderful Waterfronts Initiative aimed at enhancing waterfront areas across the state.
The allocated funds will specifically target riverfront improvements and tourism opportunities in Portsmouth, with a focus on upgrading outdoor recreation amenities, parks, murals, a community amphitheater, and walking paths. Pizzulli expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This funding will be transformative for not just Portsmouth and Scioto County, but the Appalachian Region as a whole."
The initiative is poised to contribute to the overall development and attractiveness of Southeast Ohio, with Pizzulli emphasizing the positive impact on the region's appeal for residents and families. He remarked, "I’m grateful for this investment, which will continue to make Southeast Ohio the best place to work, live, and raise a family. Our future is bright!"
The funding announcement for Scioto County is part of a larger effort, with over $152 million being awarded to various waterfront redevelopment projects throughout Ohio's Appalachian region. This substantial investment underscores the commitment to enhancing regional infrastructure and promoting economic growth in the area.
