State Rep. Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County) has revealed a substantial investment of over $6.4 million in Adams County, Ohio. The funding is part of the Appalachian Downtowns and Destinations Initiative and will finance two economic development projects in the area.
A significant portion of the investment will go towards the reconstruction of the observation tower at Serpent Mound, a move aimed at revitalizing the site and attracting more tourists. Additionally, the Village of Peebles will benefit from the funding by utilizing it for various improvements, including sidewalks, safety measures, and roadways enhancements like bump-outs and new crosswalks.
Speaking about the investment, Pizzulli expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Serpent Mound is a significant part of our region’s rich history and culture." He emphasized that the funding will not only benefit the local district but also contribute to the overall appeal of the greater Appalachian region.
The total awarded amount for economic development projects in Ohio’s Appalachian region exceeded $154 million. This initiative aims to support downtown revitalization efforts and infrastructure improvements across the region, further enhancing the economic and cultural landscape.
