The Ohio House of Representatives has passed Substitute House Bill 2, which will provide $350 million in one-time project funding from the Strategic Community Investment Fund. State Rep. Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County) announced that nearly $3.1 million of this funding will be allocated to Adams County and the surrounding communities.

"I am excited to champion investment into the 90th district," said Pizzulli. "These initiatives will strengthen the greater Appalachian region for generations to come."

The investments proposed by Pizzulli include $2.5 million to expand the Shawnee State University College of Health and Human Services, which will address the healthcare workforce crisis in the Appalachian region. Additionally, $350,000 will be allocated to build the Adams County Welcome Center, boosting tourism throughout the area. Lastly, $200,000 will support the Adams County Community Foundation, enhancing the quality of life in Adams County and providing scholarship opportunities for local children.

The legislation also includes statewide capital investments of $1.647 billion. This includes $600 million for the School Building Program Assistance Fund, $400 million for the Public Works Commission Local Public Infrastructure and State Capital Improvement Program, $397.6 million for higher education projects, and $250 million for local jail construction across Ohio.

The Strategic Community Investment Fund was established in the state's main operating budget last year and includes excess funding from the previous fiscal year. This funding is a result of conservative fiscal stewardship, allowing Ohio to allocate the excess towards projects that will move the state forward.

The allocated funds will be incorporated into the greater State Capital Budget bill, a two-year construction budget for capital projects.

This investment is a significant step towards addressing the needs of Adams County and enhancing the overall infrastructure and opportunities in the region. With the expansion of Shawnee State University's College of Health and Human Services, the healthcare workforce crisis in the Appalachian region can be effectively tackled. The construction of the Adams County Welcome Center will boost tourism and drive economic growth in the area. Additionally, the support for the Adams County Community Foundation will contribute to the overall improvement of the quality of life in Adams County and provide educational opportunities for local children.

These investments demonstrate the Ohio House of Representatives' commitment to the development of the state and its local communities. By utilizing excess funds and prioritizing strategic investments, Ohio is paving the way for a brighter future.
