State Representative Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe) has announced that Ohio’s tourism industry attracted more than 240 million visitors in 2024. According to the Ohio Department of Development, these visits supported thousands of local businesses and attractions, generating over $57 billion in revenue.
“We are truly the most blessed area of Ohio for tourism, come see America’s best outdoor drama, Tecumseh! I promise you will not be disappointed,” said Rep. Johnson. “We are the home of by far, Ohio’s best and most beautiful state parks from Hocking Hills, Lake Hope to Scioto Trails along with our two National Parks, Ohio’s own World Heritage site Hopewell Mound Group or hike the Buckeye Trail in the Wayne National Park near the village of Shawnee!”
Ohio features a range of destinations including national parks, historical monuments, restaurants, wineries, museums and other attractions. Some notable sites in Johnson's district include Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre—home to the Tecumseh Outdoor Drama—the City of Chillicothe which was Ohio's original capital founded in 1803, the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks recognized as Ohio's first World Heritage Site and 25th such listing in the United States, and Wayne National Forest which is Ohio’s only national forest spanning over 240,000 acres in Southeastern Ohio.
TourismOhio—a division within the Ohio Department of Development—promotes these destinations as opportunities for adventure or residence across the state.
