The Ohio Senate has approved Senate Bill 178, a legislative proposal introduced by State Senator Steve Wilson from Maineville. The bill aims to expand the existing "Slow Down, Move Over" law in Ohio to encompass distressed vehicles. These are defined as vehicles pulled over on the shoulder with hazard or blinking lights, flares, or emergency signage.

Senator Wilson emphasized the importance of this legislation by stating, "There is a lot of data showing a rise in accidents and fatalities related to distressed vehicles. I believe SB 178 will prevent more of these accidents and save lives. This legislation will keep drivers and our roadways in the Buckeye State safe."

The proposed bill does not extend its provisions to abandoned vehicles on roadsides. It specifically targets situations where drivers have pulled over and activated their vehicle's hazard lights or used flares or emergency signs.

Following its passage in the Senate, Senate Bill 178 will proceed to the Ohio House for further consideration.
