The House State and Local Government Committee has started hearings on House Bill 243, a legislation that aims to designate November 5th as "Roy Rogers Day." State Rep. Justin Pizzulli, the bill's sponsor, made the announcement regarding the hearing.
Roy Rogers, a renowned American singer, actor, television host, and rodeo performer, had his roots in Portsmouth, Ohio. Pizzulli emphasized that the bill is not just about honoring Rogers but also about recognizing Ohio's significant contribution to America's cultural heritage.
During the sponsor testimony, Pizzulli stated, “This bill goes beyond honoring a man; it's about embracing our heritage and acknowledging Ohio's impact on America's cultural landscape. Let us unite in preserving the legacy of a true Ohioan and making history by officially designating November 5th as 'Roy Rogers Day' in the great state of Ohio.”
For 40 years, Portsmouth has been home to the Roy Rogers Museum and its annual festival. The museum and festival have played a crucial role in celebrating the life and achievements of Roy Rogers.
As House Bill 243 progresses, it will continue to undergo hearings in the House State and Local Government Committee.
