Created last summer as a collaboration between Shawnee State University’s Offices of Career Services and Accessibility Services, the Limitless Launch program is designed for students who use registered Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations and who are entering the workforce.
Through Limitless Launch, students complete a year-long program that includes enrollment in the Workforce Recruitment Program for Schedule A candidates, resume writing, mock interviews, training in how to use law to advocate for accommodations post-hire, and a personal graduation-to-hire plan created with SSU staff among other resources.
“Our goal is to prepare differently-abled job seekers to embrace the workforce with confidence, and to leverage their unique gifts in lives of meaningful vocation,” SSU Academic Advisor Heidi Bender Kauffman said.
By participating in the program, eligible SSU students will gain knowledge and skills to advocate for themselves throughout the hiring process, present themselves as strong professionals, navigate the job hunt, and to take advantage of programs that give them preferred status in the hiring process. Graduates of the program receive a certificate of course completion and leave college with the knowledge and resources that they need to land their first professional job.
While students with ADA accommodations could gain additional skills for career preparation prior to the start of the program, Limitless Launch now provides training in ADA rights and disability disclosure to further their knowledge during the hiring and onboarding process.
