Ohio voter: Not voting is surrendering to those who do

Monica Sellers of Hillsboro, Ohio, believes that those who fail to vote are surrendering to those casting ballots.

“Elections are determined by those who show up, not by those who have an opinion on which candidate they would like to vote for,” she said in an interview for South Ohio News. “I just feel very passionate about encouraging people to vote and let their voice be heard,” she said.

The issues most important to Sellers are upholding the Constitution as originally written by the Founders, protecting human life, parental rights, self-government and smaller, local government instead of a large central authority.

While voting is vital in all elections, this year’s contests are important, Sellers said.

“People are very frustrated,” she said. “Voting is the way we express our wishes.”

She has been interested in politics since she was a teenager.

“It’s always kind of frustrated me that people complain about our elected officials and government but they don’t actually get out and vote,” Sellers said. “Voting is one of the ways that we influence the government that we have. It’s always been very important for me to get out and cast my vote. Voting at the end of the day is one of the very important things we can do as citizens.”

In addition to the presidential race, she pays attention to state legislative races.

“We always make sure we get to know our state legislators and the candidates running for those positions as well,” Sellers said.
