Cost of college went up for all students at Southern State Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 13.6 percent for 2018-19 at Southern State Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Ohio residents paid $5,012 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $600 more than the $4,412 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 79.9 percent more than residents this year, or $9,018. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 11.1 percent from $8,118 in 2017-18.

100 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Ohio residents.

Data shows 96 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 178 students received grants or scholarships totaling $697,709 and 112 students took out student loans totaling more than $382,778.

Including all undergraduates (2,455), 1,233 students used grants or scholarships totaling $4.2 million, and 960 students took out $3.5 million in federal student loans.
