Signature Healthcare of Chillicothe was identified as the second largest nursing facility in Ross County for the first quarter of 2026, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility offered 100 available beds, which is 22 above the county average for Ross County during that period. Its average daily census was 68.3 residents in the same timeframe.

The CMS gave Signature Healthcare of Chillicothe an overall rating of 1 out of 5, falling short of Ohio’s nursing home average of 3.2 for that quarter.

Westmoreland Place was the largest nursing home in Ross County during the quarter, with 139 available beds. Chillicothe Post Acute placed third with 99 beds.

In the first quarter of 2026, Signature Healthcare of Chillicothe had received one fine totaling $32,380 and incurred one penalty.

Altogether, there were five for-profit nursing homes operating in Ross County, Ohio.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the U.S. population of older adults is on the rise, while numbers for younger groups show a decline. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, as those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The older adult population has climbed substantially over the past 100 years, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study indicates that about half of individuals in this age bracket, or approximately 28 million people, could need long-term care or services, with projections suggesting over a third may ultimately need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
