Embassy of Cambridge emerged as Guernsey County’s largest nursing facility in the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
The facility offered 95 beds—21 more than the average for Guernsey County during the same period—and cared for an average of 76.4 residents.
CMS assigned Embassy of Cambridge an overall rating of 2 out of 5, which is below Ohio’s nursing home average of 3.2.
Astoria Place of Cambridge was the second largest, providing 78 available beds, followed by Altercare Cambridge, Inc. with 50 beds.
By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Embassy of Cambridge had accumulated $131,018 in fines over four penalties.
Guernsey County, Ohio, had three for-profit nursing homes in total.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s older adult population is rising, while the number of children declines. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and up grew by 13%, as those under 18 dropped 1.7%. The older population has expanded significantly over the past century, surging from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 study found that nearly half of older adults—about 28 million—are likely to need long-term services and supports. The same study projects that over a third may eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
