Altercare Cambridge, Inc. was recognized as the third largest nursing facility in Guernsey County for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility offered 50 available beds, which was 24 fewer than the county’s average bed count for the period. The home cared for an average of 47.2 residents during Q1 2026.

The CMS awarded Altercare Cambridge, Inc. an overall 4 out of 5 rating, surpassing the Ohio average of 3.2 among all nursing homes statewide.

In that quarter, Embassy of Cambridge led as Guernsey County’s largest nursing home with 95 available beds, while Astoria Place of Cambridge was second with 78 beds.

Altercare Cambridge, Inc. did not receive any fines or penalties throughout the first quarter of 2026.

There were 3 for-profit nursing homes operating in Guernsey County, Ohio during this time frame.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the nation’s older adult population is increasing while younger age groups are declining. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and up grew by 13%, as the under-18 population dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult population in the United States has risen sharply, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A study published in 2021 found that almost half of Americans in this age group—about 28 million—may eventually require long-term services and supports. The study also forecasts that over one-third could require nursing home care in the future.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” Jesse Slome said, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
