The Adams County Board of Commissioners held an emergency meeting on April 16 at the Adams County Commissioner’s Office in West Union. The purpose of the meeting was to consider and possibly appoint an acting county prosecutor due to a vacancy in that office, according to a notice released by Board Chair Kelly Jones.
The urgency for the meeting was attributed to the need for continuous legal representation for Adams County and its officials. The board said it could not delay action, holding the session as an emergency under Ohio Revised Code 121.22 (F). Media outlets that requested notification were informed about the meeting.
This development comes as Adams County continues its regular operations serving a community with significant educational activity. During the 2023-24 school year, West Union Elementary School had the largest enrollment among eight schools in Adams County, with 669 students enrolled, according to the Ohio Department of Education.
In terms of student demographics during that same period, non-Hispanic white students made up most of the student body in Adams County schools—totaling 3,672 students or about 96.5 percent—while multiracial students were second at approximately 1.2 percent with 46 students, as reported by the Ohio Department of Education.
Overall enrollment in Adams County’s schools reached 3,804 students for the year—a decrease of about 2.2 percent from last year’s total enrollment figure of 3,888 students according to state data.
The outcome and any decisions made regarding appointment of an acting county prosecutor are expected to be announced following this emergency session.
